Note: I have gone back and added videos to the first two posts, since I didn't do that when they were originally written.

This is one of those songs that hit me really hard the first time I heard it, and continues to do so. It is so simple, and pretty, and feels so much shorter than its 2:33 running time.

The lyrics of "Mysterious You" are almost disjointed, but not quite, which is part of what appeals to me so much. They remind me in an odd way of some of my early poetry, in that there's an obvious theme, which almost gets lost a little bit by trying to figure out how exactly the phrases all revolve around that theme.

I love pretty much everything about this song, from the simple music to the ethereal vocals. The main reason I love it, though, is the lyrics. They're so pretty and soothing.

Just when I think that I know you

Greens and pinks come in new hues

Colors by the thousands I had never seen

I've certainly felt this type of thing before - the way a new love caused me to see so many things in new and exciting ways. It's a feeling many people have described in literature throughout history, so obviously it's no revelation of any sort. Still... it's a common theme for a reason. It is a feeling that many people feel at least once in their lives.

We made a pact, we made a campsite

Bathed in black, only lamplight

Illuminates a thousand years of evergreens

I love simple phrases like this. What was the pact? Doesn't matter. It's not relevant to the song. The memory of camping, lamplight that "illuminates a thousand years of evergreens" is what is important. It goes back to the thought of seeing things anew. This little section really makes me happy every time I hear this song.

"Mysterious Me" calms me so easily when I am in need of calming. That, coupled with how I feel for the woman who introduced me to this song, will ensure it's on many of my playlists for years to come.
